When Patricia A. Chitwood Ross moved her dad, WWII Veteran, Gene Phillip Chitwood, to a nursing home in 2005 and cleaned out his house, she discover about 180 letters written by her dad, his brother and several others between 1943 and 1945. They are the foundation for her book "$2 for $2 for Luck", A WWII Story.
Patricia is the middle daughter of WWII Veteran Gene P. Chitwood. She spent her childhood near Masonville, Colorado with two sisters and a brother. She and her husband live in Goodland, Kansas. They started a family late in life and raised two sons. They expect their daughter to leave for college in 2021.
Pat has always enjoyed crafts, writing and organizing things. Putting together this book of letters was a relaxing part of her days for the last seven years. Researching to make it all connect was a labor of love. She found that studying WWII and piecing together the story that the letters tell brought her even closer to the dad she knew and loved than she ever dreamed possible.
